darpa-soft-exosuit
Instead of donning a heavy robotic exoskeleton to carry out superhuman feats, soldiers soon may be wearing something like robotic long johns. The "soft exosuit," as DARPA's flexible gear is called, could give soldiers more strength and stamina, allowing them to walk longer distances with less wear and tear to their joints. It also might be used to help civilians with mobility problems. [More...]

apple-healthkit
Apple's HealthKit could be a highly effective tool for monitoring patients with chronic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure. However, there's perhaps no sector in which security, confidentiality and privacy are more important than in healthcare. Medical trials soon will be under way to explore the usefulness -- and potential challenges -- of Apple's HealthKit. [More...]

Taken separately, last week's announcements from Apple, Intel and T-Mobile were impressive. Intel and T-Mobile basically announced they were going to explode the existing mobile market, changing it dramatically. Apple embraced some slow-moving technologies, which should speed them up dramatically. I don't think what Apple announced is in the same league, but it also will drive change. [More...]

The Obama administration threatened Yahoo with fines of $250,000 daily if it wouldn't comply with demands to hand over user information to the NSA, Yahoo has disclosed. Yahoo had filed suit against the demands in 2007, citing the Fourth Amendment. iphone-6-apple-watch
The Apple Watch is equipped with Near Field Communication technology, which enables the new Apple Pay mobile wallet. That came as a surprise, since the technology is also in the iPhone 6 -- but it will enable owners of the last two generations of iPhones to use Apple Pay as well. That's a smart tactic when Apple's trying to rope in as many Apple Pay users as it can. [More...]

iphone-6-and-6-plus
Apple's faithful are oozing praise for the big iPhone 6 and bigger 6 Plus, natch, while Android fans predictably are giving them a bruising. Analysts seem on the verge of snoozing. Steve Jobs, however, may be in the throes of unearthly fury. Jobs famously thought Apple had gotten the iPhone's size just right, as in not too big and not too small. And now that perfect iPhone is gone. [More...]

About 5 million Gmail usernames and passwords have been published on a Russian bitcoin security forum as a text file. Sixty percent of the 4.93 million credentials in the file were valid, claimed the poster, who used the online handle "tvskit." The information reportedly was dumped on several Russian cybercrime forums and shared through a variety of peer-to-peer services. [More...]
