The 16 GB Nexus 7 tablet has sold out at Google Play and there is no indication when Google will have more of the devices in stock. Shoppers who visit the Google Play store seeking to buy the tablet are invited to leave their email address so they can be notified when the product becomes available. The 8 GB Nexus 7, however, is in stock. The disappearance of the 16 GB Nexus 7 from Google Play has broad implications for the low-priced tablet market segment specifically and for the way tablets are being used in general.
A lot of people don't like Apple. That's what I take from why the Nexus 7 has taken off. I think the media gives Apple way too much credit in terms of how much they are liked as a company. Not everyone likes a closed garden of services like Apple does. Android is certainly the opposite of that. I also think the 7" tablet is popular in size and function and just needed a decent price point to sell that message. I like my Nexus 7 and walking into a Staples the other day I saw a Nexus 7 proudly on display. This in itself can get people interested in it. I think the problems are over blown with it to some extent and Apple will certainly have the market sales to show the iPad is no slouch. But its nice to see a decent alternative to the iPad.
Actually last I heard Google stopped sales of the Nexus 7 to investigate complaints of defects. Now I don't know if this is limited to the 16Gb model but I have heard people complaining about both the 8Gb and 16Gb models. I have a 8Gb model and have had some issues. Have been waiting a week for a response from Google. Some have filed complaints claiming Google was not prepared for such defects or issues. My auto response email from Google indicated they were experiencing extremely high volume of request for service. So I would not receive a reply for a extended period.
Maybe they are figuring out what to do? I managed to fix mine with a hard reset.
