Amazon Sweetens Prime Deal With More Instant Vid Titles

Amazon and Viacom have inked a licensing agreement that will bring the number of instant videos available to Amazon Prime customers to more than 15,000. The deal will add episodes from Viacom's Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon and BET outlets. Titles will include "The Hills," "Jersey Shore," "The Hard Times of RJ Berger," several seasons of "The Real World," and some Comedy Central shows.
iTV Looms Large

Apple ended up being the top-selling smartphone vendor for the fourth quarter of 2011, but rumors about an as-yet unconfirmed next-generation Apple TV claimed much of the company's spotlight over the last week. In a note regarding Apple, Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek wrote that Apple stock was a smart buy because the company's next entertainment device, which he called "iTV," is on its way.

Vizio has unveiled a 58-inch 3D widescreen HDTV with a 21:9 aspect ratio -- far more than the standard 16:9 ratio HDTVs use. Users can set the TV to upscale 16:9 content to fill the screen. The sale price for this set will start at US$3,500 -- that includes four pairs of 3D glasses.

After seven years of a neck-and-neck race for first place in customer satisfaction, Amazon has pulled decisively ahead of Netflix, according to ForeSee's annual Holiday E-Retail Satisfaction Index. Amazon moved ahead 2 points to reach the top spot with 88 on the index's 100-point scale. Netflix slid 7 points to 79. Amazon's 88 score is an all-time high for the 14-year-old index.

There were a number of career-limiting moves last year that warrant a top spot on my Bozo meter.
