I take briefings from all sorts of vendors every day, from established companies with a new release to emerging companies with what they hope will be The Next Great Idea that the market will seize on. I am always happy to give my opinion and advice, and sometimes it's even taken. But I am usually reticent to write about most of them simply because it's not my job to provide free advertising.
Minitube Puts More You in YouTube

YouTube is a great source for watching an eclectic collection of videos on music, human stupidity and worldly comedy. But I find it much too easy to go far afield as I click on "also watched" videos when viewing a particular topic line. Minitube solves that problem for me.

YouTube Designs a More TV-Like Experience

Google has launched a major interface redesign for YouTube. This latest change revamps the site overall. It also provides a new home page and simpler, customizable channels. "We want to grow the amount of time people spend on the site, and we feel that growing channels is a way to help them find the videos they love," YouTube spokesperson Chris Dale told TechNewsWorld.

2010 saw many large retailers experiment with online video. According to eMarketer, nearly three quarters of all U.S. retailers featured video on their sites in Q4 of 2010, which is up 55 percent from a year earlier. They created homepage videos, how-to videos and select product videos on their websites and other channels such as YouTube.

Last week, Facebook launched its video chat. Saying this was going to be an "awesome" announcement and then showcasing basic video chat and group text chat was, and I'm being kind, disappointing. Still, Facebook does have something amazing here -- I just don't think it's worked out yet. But I do think this is the beginning of something big.
