On the heels of record-setting attendance at their San Jose, California event, IDG World Expo has announced that registration is now open for the next LinuxWorld Conference & Expo to be held in New York City, January 30th to February 2nd, 2001.

Booming attendance at recent Linux events provides further evidence that Linux, once the "outlaw" movement of the computing community, is rapidly becoming a mainstream operating system choice. Conference Program

Swope, Vice President of the Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) Latest News about Intel Architecture Group and General Manager, Intel Architecture Solutions Enabling Group (SEG), Intel, Larry Augustin, VA Linux Systems’ president, CEO and director, and Dirk Hohndel, Chief Technology Officer of SuSE Latest News about SuSE Linux AG.

Conference Highlights

Immediately following the opening keynote, Linux icon Linus Torvalds will present the prestigious US$25,000 IDG/Linus Torvalds Community Award. The award is given to an individual that has shown exceptional dedication to the Open Source movement through our first-ever programming contest. Past recipients include the Stampede Linux Foundation, Jay Sulzberger, The Free Software Foundation, XFree86, Inc. and Debian. Don’t miss out on seeing the winner of this award at a ceremony on Wednesday, January 31st, immediately following the opening keynote.

In a repeat of last year’s popular contest, the "Nerds" and the "Geeks" will again square off, putting their Linux knowledge to the test in the Golden Penguin Bowl.
