About.com (Nasdaq: BOUT) was up 3 to 47 3/4 early Friday after being pegged as a potential takeover target by Business Week magazine.
Business Week's "Inside Wall Street" column says some investors are buying shares of the company, which provides entertainment, news and information through about 700 sites, seeing similarities to Lycos, Inc. (Nasdaq: LCOS), which is being acquired by Spain's Terra Networks. "Dot-coms that have been shot down but whose franchises are profitable -- or about to make money -- are the likely targets," Palisade Capital Management's Dan Veru told the magazine.
About.com shares have traded as high as 105 and as low as 19 1/2 over the past year.
