I gotta call BS on OnLive
10/27/09 12:24 AM PT | TechNewsWorld Talkback Forum | 293 Words

Enderle, while services like OnLive might work in limited markets like NY and L.A., the rest of us need PCs because it is far cheaper to simply walk into a store and by software for hardware we have at home than it is paying for the bandwidth something like OnLive would chew through.

And gaming PCs have never been cheaper, in my own case I paid $650 before rebates for 8Gb of RAM, dual core AMD, 1Tb of HDD, and a 4650 ATI ...

Intel will become akin to ATI, where they sell mainly to the lowend desktops, while their main competator gobbles up the market because they own the high end market. They'll realize too late that the high end eventually becomes the low end.

They could go with an ATI or Nvidia chipset, but Apple doesn't care and neither does Intel. Don't believe me? Check out these links.
BusinessWeek: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/07_33/b4046022.htm Basically shows that Intel cannot even play the Sims 2 correctly.

... are choosing the "imaginary problems kill windows" meme along with "works for me", is this correct? please in the future go to TM Repo and choose the appropriate number of the lame excuse you are gonna use, kthanx.

Are you gonna say that Ms Hudson with more than a decade's worth of exp as an admin is "doing it wrong"? its a shame i can't post links here or i'd put the one from Dell where they have to run their own repo just to keep Linux from falling down and going BOOM! if one of the largest OEMs on the planet can't even get any decent QA from the developers, even though they ONLY offer Linux on a teeny tiny subset of hardware? The rest of us have better odds of winning the powerball.

Look pogson i've seen linux make a stinky with my own two eyes waaaaay too often, and we are talking bog standard hardware, realtek, atheros, ati ...

What do you see as the biggest obstacle to mainstream adoption of video calling?
Too many steps are required to reach a contact.
Video quality is often poor -- dropped calls, frozen images.
There's no advantage to face-to-face communication in most cases.
Too many people feel uncomfortable on live cameras.
There are too many security and privacy issues.
The trend is away from personal engagement and toward texting.
The obstacles are fading, and video calling is well on its way to adoption.
