If the South by Southwest interactive and music festivals in Austin, Texas were any indication, eBay will continue to grow at a rapid pace. eBay had representatives at the trade shows for both events last week. The company was looking to hire new talent and also raise exposure of the Web site, and it seemed to work, as numerous industry types logged on to the site for the first time at the trade show.
eBay may seem like an expensive stock, but it’s still one of the few Internet companies that’s turning a profit. Its appearance at South by Southwest proves how serious it is about getting bigger and better. Maybe Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) should consider setting up a booth next year. South by Southwest, after all, is the biggest yearly conference for the music industry, and music sales are certainly important to Amazon.com’s ongoing success.
