Ameritrade Holding Corp. (Nasdaq: AMTD) was down 23/32 at 12 11/32 early Tuesday after the online brokerage said Chief Executive Officer Tom Lewis resigned.
The Omaha, Nebraska-based company said in a brief statement that Lewis’ departure was “for personal reasons,” and he may continue as a consultant to Chairman Joe Ricketts. Ricketts, Ameritrade’s founder, will serve as interim CEO while executive-search firm Heidrich and Struggles looks for a permanent replacement, the company said.
Lewis joined Ameritrade in March 1999 as co-chief executive, along with Ricketts. He assumed full CEO duties just two months ago.
Ameritrade said Lewis’ departure “will not affect financial and operational performance.”
