Stock Watch: Ford Contract Delivers for Mail.com

Mail.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAIL) gained 1 13/32 Thursday to close at 7 3/8 after Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) selected the company to protect its e-mail system against viruses.

Ford, one of the companies stung by last week’s “Love Bug” virus, has more than 170,000 corporate mailboxes worldwide. The automaker will use Mail.com’s MailZone to guard against spam and other “inappropriate” content, Mail.com said.

Mail.com said it configured MailZone to block the Love Bug within 20 minutes of the virus’ discovery, so all clients were protected. “While their competitors and peers scrambled to shut down their e-mail systems in self-defense, MailZone clients went about what they do best — serving their clients and making money,” said Aaron Fessler, president of Mail.com’s Allegro division.
