Stock Watch: IDC Ranking Lifts BroadVision

BroadVisionInc. (Nasdaq: BVSN) gained 2 1/2 Wednesday to close at 54 9/16 after International Data Corp. (IDC) ranked the company No. 1 among the world’s e-commerce software leaders.

The Redwood City, California-based company’s revenue from e-commerce software applications rose to $81 million in 1999 from $36 million in 1998. “BroadVision had a fabulous year in the e-commerce software applications market in 1999 on the strengths of its Internet sales and marketing products, as well as its expertise in personalization technology,” said IDC’s Albert Pang.

“With an impressive installed base of 538 customers at the end of 1999, BroadVision is showing strong momentum because of its ongoing advancement in providing business-to-consumer and business-to-business applications and extending these applications to the wireless market,” Pang said.

In its report, IDC estimated the worldwide market for e-commerce software at $1.8 billion in 1999, up 305 percent from the prior year. Oracle Corp., Open Market, Vignette, IBM and SAP rounded out the top six vendors.
